 Target Audience

Doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, lactation

consultants/counselors, health educators, registered dietitians,

childbirth educators, doulas, La Leche League leaders.

  At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1. Explain how breast milk and formula differ substantially.

2. Discuss how breastfeeding helps prevent disease in the baby and mother in adulthood. 

3. Outline how the numbers are muddling our thinking about breastfeeding.

4. Discuss how to deal with hypoglycemia, jaundice and when to intervene or not for slow weight gain.

5. Verbalize how breastfeeding can be made or unmade, that it doesn’t just work or not work.

6. Explain that there is such a thing as nipple confusion, but who really is the one confused.

Breastfeeding Coalition

Is a diverse group that includes mothers, public

health providers, hospital staff, primary health

care providers, mental health providers, health

plans, health educators, nursing students, La Leche

League members and leaders, lactation professionals

and community members.

The Coalition collaborates with other organizations

to provide educational events and outreach

for the community. These events include

county fairs, health fairs, and community sponsored festivals.
